This is the last stage of the journey. The Argentinian archipelago of Tierra del Fuego is a land of open plains where the wind and the mind can roam free. My thoughts are flying back with the head wind. I remember the day that it all started and I was filled with expectations and anxiety. I was concerned about my safety, doubted my ability and questioned my journey. The southern city of Ushuaia seemed to be an unreachable finish line, but I still steered my bike in that direction. From there it has been an exhausting and exhilarating ride, with expectations that continuously has kept flying forward with the tailwind to this spot.

I meet many fellow cycling tourers with the same destination as me. It is a fine feeling to unite on this last stretch of land. We all carry different emotions with us to the end and I feel them all. Joy for everything I have experienced, nostalgia for everything I have left behind, pride for everything I have accomplished, gratitude to everybody I have met, sadness for everything that will end and eagerness to see everybody at home. I carry all of these emotions as I am reaching the end of America and end of the all.

The plains of Tierra del Fuego narrow down between the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. I ride between the two oceans and over the final mountain pass. Soon the outlines of Ushuaia appears by the southern coast of the continent. I never knew that I could reach this far. Now I want to reach a little bit further. A dirt road replaces the paved streets in the outskirts of the city and I continue to pedal to a national park. The last kilometers through the forest feels like raw energy. When there is no more landmass I instinctively ride up on a wooden walkway that leads out to sea. Eventually I have to stop. The road has come to an end and I am happy that I chose to ride it.

Peace

/Hanna

Hannah, what an amazing achievement, fascinating journey. Brave, bold and beautiful. I have been following your adventures in South America and you have been truly inspirational for me. Thank you for all you knowledge you freely have shared and encouragement I needed from a woman so fearless like you.

Thank you Marta, your words are too big and too kind. I am truly glad to have shared the Pan-American roads with you, even if we have been several countries apart.

I am in no way fearless and have had the same doubts about cycling solo as I know you did. But we started anyway, lost the fear and gained an adventure.

I wish you the best on the rest of your journey and write me if there is anything I can do or if you simply want to inspire me.

    Hi Hanna,

I just today saw that this fantastic leg of the incredible journey you are on came to an end (and only because you ran out of road to ride cuz you rode to the end of the land. I am blessed to know you, inspired by you, and by your travels and wonderful photos. It was a pleasure to ride the coast of California with you. Come back and visit!

    May your wonders continue!
    Love,
