Two friends are waiting for me in the city of Mendoza. She is from home and he is from the road. I am happy to see both of them. The three of us start cycling together and after a long ride on my own, it is great to have some close friends beside me.  I usually don’t recognize loneliness until I compare it to togetherness and now I want to be together. It makes everything more enjoyable. We bike between the vineyards in the valley, the night camps in the desert and the swimming spots in the lake region.

Some stages are hard, but they feel easier together. We pedal against the strong wind together, we camp in the pouring rain together and we breathe through the volcanic ash together. There is no real hardship when you have friendship. We can act as wind shelter for each other by cycling close ahead, we can gather in the tent while the rain is pounding down on it and we can wear surgical masks against the ash in the air without feeling odd.

Our trio is expanding and decreasing along the way. Other cyclists from Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Turkey join the group and brighten up our biking days and camping nights. We meet more and more long distance cyclists and it is empowering to talk to those who share our path. But all of those new meetings and reunions consequently lead to many goodbyes.  And they are so much harder to face then all the wind, rain and ash combined. So, eventually we part, but two Swedish friends still remain. I am truly looking forward to continuing cycling with them and hope that the others will be there somewhere on the road ahead.

Peace

/Hanna

Visst är det en fin video Anna. Det finns många anledningar att le härnere, speciellt när allt bara rullar på. Ler även åt tanken att det inte dröjer så länge tills jag får se dig och hemmavännerna snart igen.
